The Lions Club of Callington
|
Fundraising for both local and international needs, is an important part of any Lions Club (see 'how we spend the money'). Callington Lions fundraise in a variety of ways throughout the year. Our fundraising committee endeavours to hold events that not only raise these much needed funds, but also give good entertainment for the supporters. The wide variety of events offer enjoyable occasions for all age groups. In addition to the larger all day events of Gala Day and Honey Fair we plan and hold several other events during the year. These have included :- In the spring we have held 1, 5 and ten mile walks through picturesque countryside. For obvious reasons, these became known collectively as the ‘Daffodil Walk’. Participants in this event raised money for thier own selected charities through sponsorship for their walk. Callington Lions control and marshall the event. |
Most of the money we raise is used for local issues; charities, projects or individuals who have requested help. For example The Children's Hospice South West, The Merlin Project; St John Ambulance Cornwall and the Cornwall First Air Ambulance Trust. ![]() Click image to enlarge Some of the funds we raise are used in aid of National or International initiatives, click here for examples. Naturally, we cannot help everyone. but we try to assist (where we can), play groups or youth organisations, care homes, senior citizens, some individuals who need specific funding, in fact anyone with a need. We also run a hospital visiting service on a Sunday for those without means of travel and where there is no public transport. Our Welfare Committee examines in detail every request for assistance and all are given very careful consideration. |
