It is Honey fair time again and preparations are well under way for the 34rd year since revival. This year is the 33nd anniversary of the Lions Club of Callington taking over the running of the fair from John Trevithick in 1979. During this time, thousands of pounds have been raised for various local charities.
As usual the central part of the fair is the honey and honey products competitions in Callington Town Hall. There is also a cooking competition using honey. The recipies and ingredients are in the Honey Schedule, which can be obtained from the Town Hall.

A regular part of the fair is the children's art competition. This is open to the eleven (11) primary schools in the area. There are prizes of £60, £40 & £20 and the competition usually attracts 900 + entries. The subjects this year are
  • Cartoon Characters
  • A Self Portrait
  • Transport of the Future
  • Road Safety Poster

  • There is also the Shop Window Competition and the theme for 2012 is watch this space.

Of course Honey fair would not be the same without Rowland's Fun Fair, itinerant traders and charity stalls who come to the fair every year giving early opportunites to purchase those unusual Christmas presents. Fortune-tellers, clowns and various Street Entertainers all add to to the fun.

Since 2008 Callington Honey Fair has hosted a Town Criers Competition organised by Callington's own Town Crier & held under the rules of The Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers. The participants come from far and wide and are judged on diction, inflection, volume, clarity and content. They are also judged on dress and bearing.
Refreshments are available around and about the fair; -
  • Callington Lions Club (& volunteers), famous Honey Cream teas (teas with the Bees) in Callington Town Hall.
  • St. Mary's Church will provide a selection of organ music whilst you eat.
  • West End Chapel, renowned for their home-made Cornish pasties, will also be providing refeshments
